Why says you have to go thousands of miles away to immerse yourself in stunning scenery? The UK has dozens of beautiful locations that offer plenty for nature lovers and adventure seekers, the most famous of which has to be the Lake District.
Home to the highest peak in England, charming little villages that inspired Beatrix Potters’ imaginative tales and a multitude of crystal-clear lakes, this pocket of England is truly special. Lake Windermere, in particular, has everything you need and more for an unforgettable summer this year.
What’s there?
Lake Windermere is England’s largest lake. At 10.5 miles long and 66.7 metres deep, it boasts a score of activities that will keep outdoor enthusiasts very busy. From water skiing to sailing, diving and canoeing, there’s no water sport you can’t do here.
And that’s not all. Surrounded by a throng of mountains, you just have to throw on your hiking boots, pack a sturdy lunch, take your waterproofs and hike up for some of the most unbeatable views in the whole of England.
Of course, there’s plenty to do for those who are not particularly inclined towards hardcore adventure. With plenty of picturesque villages at driving distance, find out what these picturesque little towns have to offer and take in this unique slice of British history.
How to get there
Located in the northwest of England, getting to the Lake District couldn’t be easier. If you’re travelling by train, there are direct journeys that connect London and Glasgow with Penrith, Carlisle and Kendal, all of which are in the heart of the Lakes. Coach companies also run services to various towns in the area from all over the UK.
The best way to travel, however, is by car. Not only is it faster and cheaper, you also have the luxury of driving wherever you want in the national park. Just remember to make your journey as comfortable as possible during the warm weather with an aircon regas.
