Using Math to Make Your Hikes Easier

Using Math to Make Your Hikes Easier

Mathematics is the most challenging aspect of education for some students. They find it difficult to learn math through the textbook information as taught in the classrooms. It requires lots of energy and time to grasp even the simplest mathematical concepts. To wrap your head around this subject, use some of your daily activities to practice your math skills.

Using Math to Make Your Hikes Easier

Math learning made easy

If you are a student in college who is struggling to find solutions to your math assignments, you need external help. The scholars at Plainmath can help you with the solutions. It is a math platform that can guide you with your complex math problems. Make sure you ask one specific academic question at a time and include all the details. The solutions are provided to you in writing with a detailed explanation. It makes your math education process not only easier but also interesting.

The complexity of math learning

Math is deeply entrenched in our lives and is an essential part of our daily function. It helps us to solve problems and think linearly. However, walking through the world of math can be very challenging for creative students. Their interest lies in abstract ideas. This makes solving math problems a daunting task.

The main reason why math is so difficult is that students have different motivations and interests. For example, creative people think in abstract terms and are more inclined towards artistic things. They generate ideas using thinking patterns and find mathematics to be quite rigid. Hence they indulge in music, sculptures, and paintings.

Some teachers can make it difficult for students to grasp mathematical concepts, while some are very good at explaining them in simple terms. The difference can be attributed to their teaching styles. Students who need extra guidance in their math education can find the teaching style of bad teachers perplexing.

Making sense of math

Students can make learning math easier by using their outdoor activities such as hiking, trailing, and nature walking, even if it is a few miles during weekends. Find a walk hill in your vicinity and mark out some popular hiking spots. It is not necessary to venture out for an entire trail. But you can take a few tiny sessions if you are a newbie.

Length of your stride

The amount of time you need to spend hiking is an important consideration. This would determine what time of the day to set and what essentials to carry with you. The reason why the time of the day is crucial is that usually trailing sites get dark once the sun starts setting.

To accurately determine the hiking time, you must count your paces, and this is where you can practice your math skills to improve on it. Your stride length will tell you the number of steps or paces it would take to get to your desired distance. So, first things first. How do you measure your stride length?

Find a straight hallway or sidewalk and take ten normal strides. Mark the places from where you took your first stride and where you stopped at your last stride. Measure the distance you took from start to finish using tape. Divide it by ten, and that is the length of your stride.

Now, you need to go back to the hiking trail and determine the distance you would like to cover. If you have it in miles, then you need to convert it to inches. After that, divide the total hike in inches by the length of your stride. The result is the number of strides you would take to cover the trailing area per session.

Math is a subject that plays a big role in life. There’s math in almost everything we do, and if you are a hiking enthusiast, here’s what you should know about math in hiking.

Amount of time spent

Now that you have done your math to get to the number of strides it would take you to cover the distance, it is time to ascertain the amount of time it would take. For that, you must divide the number of strides you got in your previous step by ten because your time is based on ten paces.

Then, find out the amount of time it takes to cover ten paces using a stopwatch. Multiply both the numbers obtained, and the resultant number is the amount of time it takes you to do ten strides. Usually, the number will be in seconds. It is easier to gauge the time if you convert the seconds into minutes.

To convert seconds to minutes, divide the result you get from the above step by 60, and that is how many minutes it would take you to cover the area. If the minute number is more than 60, divide it further by 60 so that you get the accurate time in hours and minutes. For example, 98 minutes divided by 60 is 1 hour and 38 minutes, the way it is said in plain language.

The accuracy of these math calculations would depend on several things. For example, the terrain of the trail walk may not be the same as the walkway or hallway. Or you may stop in between to enjoy the scenic view of the surroundings. You may even take a break and sit somewhere to drink some water.

Conclusion

Using your hiking or trailing as an opportunity to learn to do mathematical calculations can be quite interesting. Try it out using different hiking areas, so you can get some practice dealing with different numbers each time. Share it with your friends if they find math a difficult subject to tackle.
