Hiking Preikestolen and Pulpit Rock

Preikestolen and Pulpit Rock View

Hiking Preikestolen and Pulpit Rock are much easier than hiking Trolltunga, at the same time the views are almost same magnificent. So if you are in Stavanger, don't miss that awesome adventure.

Before I started to hike Preikestolen, I had a lot of different practical questions what to bring with me and how difficult is climbing the Pulpit Rock. Now I'm already after this hiking, so I am able to share some knowledge with you. Let's start!

How difficult is hiking Pulpit Rock and Preikestolen?

In my opinion, hiking Preikestolen is not that hard and it takes about two hours to climb and another two hours to get back. But remember, that it's still about 300-meter ascent with two taxing uphill sections. Both weren't too easy and I was really happy when I reached an easier terrain.

How to find a way to the top of Preikestolen, Norway?

Well, Pulpit Rock and Preikestolen are one of the most popular hikes in Norway, so it's not too hard to get there, you just need to follow the crowd.

There is also a lot of signs on the route, just look for a painted red T. You will also find the distance on that signs, so you will know how long you still have to climb.

Is hiking Pulpit Rock is safe?

In my opinion, there are no particularly difficult parts of the route, but still, you should watch your steps during the hike. Like with all climbing, there is also a possibility to get carried away, so mind your steps, for example, while taking photographs.

Preikestolen Hiking Tips

I'm scared of heights. Is it a problem?

While climbing Pulpit Rock you will find a few places, where the path is a bit narrow or the drop is visible, but if you don't have paranoia, you can just stay as close to the rock as you can. And just don't look down.

While being on the top of the Preikestolen and Pulpit Rock in Norway, you can still enjoy the beautiful view without getting near the abyss or just get there on your knees.

I'm going! What to wear?

Because the weather in Norway may change even a few times a day, we should, just for sure, expect minimum rain or even a show. There will be also windy, so it's important to take a few layers with you.

It's nice to have with you a jacket, even if you may not need it. Take also the sunglasses and waterproof clothes. If you are in Norway in the middle of the summer and it's a sunny day, it's probably better to take a tanning oil with you.

Personally, I love Preikestolen, the entire route, not just the desktop itself. A beautiful tourist attraction, like the whole of Norway. Climbing is not so hard either. Wspinaczka zresztą też nie jest taka ciężka.
