Adventure in Tayrona National Park: Why Colombia is the perfect place for a vacation?

Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you my unforgettable adventure in Tayrona National Park in Colombia. It was my first time in this country, and I can't imagine a better way to start my Colombian adventure.

Adventure in Tayrona National Park: Why Colombia is the perfect place for a vacation?

Read on to find out why Colombia is the perfect place for a vacation, as well as how to prepare for a visit to Tayrona National Park.

Why Colombia?

My adventure started in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, but I quickly realized that what attracts tourists the most to Colombia are the beautiful landscapes, amazing beaches, and exotic nature. Colombia has a lot to offer, from cities full of colorful houses and rich culture, to wild and charming national parks like Tayrona National Park.

Getting to Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Park is located in the northern part of Colombia, about 35 km from Santa Marta, the city that is the starting point for the park. There are various transportation options, but I chose the bus, which cost me about 15,000 Colombian pesos (about $4 USD). After about an hour and a half bus ride, I arrived at the entrance to the park, where I had to pay 53,000 Colombian pesos (about $14 USD) for the entrance ticket.

Accommodation in Tayrona National Park

The park offers many accommodation options, from tents to luxury bungalows. I chose a tent to feel closer to nature, and I wasn't disappointed. The camp was well-equipped, with beds and a stove, which allowed me to prepare dinner. A night in a tent cost me about 45,000 Colombian pesos (about $12 USD) per night.

Restaurants in Tayrona National Park

If you're looking for places to eat, Tayrona National Park offers several options. There is a restaurant in the park that serves local dishes, but also several food stalls on the beach. I tried some of these stalls and wasn't disappointed with the taste. I was served delicious arepas, which is a local cornbread, with meat and salad.

Tourist attractions

Now it's time for the best part - tourist attractions! The park has several tourist trails that lead to different beautiful places.

Cabo San Juan Beach

The most popular of them is the trail leading to Cabo San Juan Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. The walk to the beach takes about two hours, but the landscapes you pass along the way are worth the effort. I admired exotic vegetation, saw monkeys jumping on branches, and views of the Pacific Ocean that took my breath away.

After reaching Cabo San Juan Beach, you can decide to relax or admire the landscape from a viewpoint. The view of the beach is spectacular, and in the evening, you can enjoy a sunset over the sea, which is a true feast for the eyes.

Pueblito Village, Tayrona National Park, Colombia

Pueblito Village

If you enjoy hiking, it's worth trying to climb up to Pueblito, a small village inhabited by the indigenous people of Tayrona. The village is located on a steep hill, and the view of the surrounding area is amazing. It's worth bringing plenty of water and strength because the climb is quite demanding.

Off-the-beaten-path places to visit

If you're interested in off-the-beaten-path places to visit, I recommend visiting Cascada de Arcoiris, or Rainbow Waterfall. It's a small waterfall, but it has wonderful colors that make it look like a rainbow. You can get there as part of a tour organized by the park.

Another interesting place is Ciudad Perdida, or the Lost City of the Tayrona indigenous culture. However, it requires a three-day climb and camping, so you need to be prepared for the challenge.

Summary

Tayrona National Park in Colombia is a beautiful place that you must see with your own eyes. The landscapes, nature, and beaches are amazing, and the local culture and food are worth trying. The park offers many accommodation options, from tents to luxury bungalows, so everyone will find something for themselves.

If you're planning a visit to Tayrona National Park, it's worth bringing good walking shoes, plenty of water, a light backpack, and of course, a camera to capture these amazing views.

Don't forget to bring mosquito spray as they can be quite annoying in the park.
